On September 2, 2026, Google added a feature to Google Vids that uses Google Docs, PDF files, and Microsoft Word documents to prepare video summaries. The system builds an editable starting point with a script, narration, and visual materials generated with artificial intelligence.
From a document to a first draft
The feature changes how audiovisual work begins. Instead of arranging every scene from scratch, users receive a proposal based on existing information.
Google positions it for reports, meeting notes, training materials, and lengthy documentation. Its value is presenting key ideas, not replacing the complete file.
A production that remains editable
Artificial intelligence combines the document content with a suggested script, voiceover, and visual elements. Google did not specify how many scenes each project generates or set a standard processing time.
The initial version remains open to revision. Google Vids lets users adjust scenes, text, images, audio, and transitions before the result is shared with other people.
Uses in everyday work
A team could use this foundation to explain a procedure, present an internal summary, or adapt onboarding material into an audiovisual format. The workflow removes the need to start from scratch, although Google published no measurements showing how much time it saves.
Final quality will depend on the source. Ambiguous or specialized content may require deeper editorial review.
Access will arrive in stages
Domains configured for Rapid Release began receiving the feature on September 2, 2026. For Scheduled Release domains, the gradual rollout is scheduled to begin on September 5 and may take up to fifteen days.
Access requires an eligible Google Workspace, Education, Google AI, or another edition included by Google. The company said there is no dedicated administrator control or individual switch for activating this feature.
Collaborative editing and export options
Google Vids projects can be shared with permission to view, comment, or edit. Once a video is ready, it can also be exported as an MP4 to Google Drive, downloaded to a device, or sent to YouTube.
General Vids documentation sets a maximum duration of thirty minutes per video. That limit applies to the overall product and does not mean document-based summaries have a predetermined length.
The original document remains essential
Google presented no independent assessments of summary accuracy and did not detail feature-specific limits for page count, file size, or languages. It also did not demonstrate that every figure and relationship in a document will remain unchanged.
Before distribution, the video should be checked against its source and any omission or simplification corrected. This review matters most for documents containing figures, instructions, contractual commitments, or decisions that should not depend only on an automated summary.
