IBM has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI to bring artificial intelligence models and tools into business processes, application development, and cybersecurity operations.
The collaboration will combine OpenAI technology with IBM Consulting’s enterprise experience to help organizations modernize legacy systems and turn complex processes into AI-supported workflows.
AI for business processes
IBM will integrate OpenAI models and products into IBM Consulting Advantage, a platform that brings together agents, specialized resources, and tools used in enterprise client projects.
The goal is to analyze procedures, identify tasks that can be simplified, and support modernization in areas such as finance, procurement, customer service, and human resources.
The partnership will also focus on financial services, government, telecommunications, and retail. The announcement describes areas of work, but it does not confirm that a finished solution already exists for every industry.
Application development and modernization
IBM plans to combine GPT-5.6, Codex, and ChatGPT Work with its technical experience to help update legacy applications and accelerate the creation of new digital services.
These tools may support the review of existing systems, organization of development projects, and preparation of code changes. IBM did not publish specific figures for time savings, cost reductions, or customer results.
A dedicated OpenAI practice
IBM will also create a practice dedicated to OpenAI. The company says thousands of consultants and engineers will receive training and certifications through the OpenAI Partner Network.
IBM will also form specialized teams to work directly with organizations implementing AI in complex processes or environments with stronger security and regulatory requirements.
Joint cybersecurity work
Security will be another part of the partnership. IBM participates in the Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, an OpenAI initiative that allows approved partners to use advanced models in enterprise security services.
These services may include vulnerability analysis, authorized security testing, incident response, and support for fixing problems. OpenAI says access operates with defined boundaries, monitoring, and human oversight.
A partnership still in development
The announcement does not include a single availability date, pricing, or a complete list of countries. It also does not mean that every IBM customer will automatically receive access to the products mentioned.
IBM and OpenAI presented several areas of work that will move forward progressively. Final availability will depend on each solution, service, and enterprise project.
